Summer Storms Driving Safety

The heavy rains and winds caused by tropical storm Debby led to traffic jams and car accidents in many Florida areas, including Orlando. As wet summer weather sets in, circumstances are ripe for causing a car accident. Without exercising care, a driver can quickly cause devastating injuries to himself and others.

A summer storm can present many driving hazards, chief among them heavy rain, high winds, flooded roadways and limited visibility. To prevent auto accidents in these conditions, you should:

  • Reduce your speed
  • Increase your following distance
  • Make sure your headlights on, but not the high beams
  • Do not attempt to cross a flooded roadway

If you must pull off the road in limited visibility conditions, you should pull all the way off the road if you are able. Stopping on the shoulder can cause a rear-end auto accident because other drivers may think you are moving and in the lane of traffic. If it’s safe, pull all the way off the road and turn off your lights.

If you have been in a car accident caused by someone else’s careless behavior in Orlando, Florida, please contact the Law Offices of Michael Barszcz, M.D., J.D., to schedule a consultation.
