Types of Car Accidents

Orlando, Florida's Automobile Accident Law Firm

Car accidents vary in both severity and accountability. The type of auto accident you are involved in often dictates the severity of property damage and personal injury that results. These factors can indicate the cause of the accident as well. Michael Barszcz, M.D, J.D., is a skilled Florida car accident attorney who possesses the unique experience of witnessing the devastating injuries that result from car accidents as an attending physician as well.

Types of Accidents Involving Two or More Vehicles

Head-On Collisions are the result of two vehicles moving in opposite directions and hitting each other through direct frontal impact. The force of this type of accident often results in serious injury and property damage. This type of accident is caused by one or both vehicles crossing the center line, a vehicle traveling the wrong way on a one-way street or a vehicle passing another at an unsafe moment.

Rear-End Collision is caused by one vehicle hitting another one from behind. Although this type of collision can cause fatal injuries, the most frequent injury is whiplash. A sudden slowing or stopping by the vehicle in front, or the lack of attention to surroundings by the driver of the second vehicle are the most common causes of this type of accident.

Side Impact Collisions are the result of one vehicle slamming into the side of another. This type of collision often results in very serious injury to the occupants of the vehicle that was hit because most vehicles do not have sufficient protection from this type of collision. The most common causes of this accident is the failure of the driver of the offending vehicle to stop at a red light or stop sign.

Multi-Car Pile-Ups generally occur on busy highways with fast-moving traffic when one vehicle suddenly slows or stops and the driver of the following vehicle does not have sufficient time to avoid hitting the rear portion of that vehicle. This causes a domino affect that continues until it reaches a driver that has allowed themselves enough space between their vehicle and the one in front of them to safely slow or stop as necessary.

Types of Single Vehicle Accidents

Single vehicle accidents can be the fault of the driver of that vehicle. However, in some cases, the accident may be the result of a defective vehicle or a defective roadway.

Rollovers most often involve a single vehicle with design flaws, faulty tires or an unstable height profile. SUV's, vans and pick-up trucks are the most susceptible to rollover accidents and the resulting injuries often prove to be fatal.

Frontal-Impact Collisions involve a single vehicle striking an inanimate object. This object may be something in the road, or it can be an object or barrier that the vehicle has struck after leaving the road.

Other automobile accidents may involve any of the following factors:
