Rollover Accidents

Orlando, Florida's Automobile Accident Law Firm

Of the various types of automobile accidents, rollover accidents have the potential for some of the most severe injuries and risk of death. Rollover accidents have a number of causes and can affect cars differently depending on their type and without the help of law firms such as Orlando, Florida's Law Offices of Michael Barszcz, M.D., J.D., winning a case in a rollover accident can be very difficult.

Rollover Causes

While there are a number of causes of rollover accidents, the most common are:

  • Turning too sharply
  • Turning at too high a speed
  • Faulty tires
  • Dangerous weather conditions
  • Poorly designed vehicles
  • Dangerous road conditions

Some of these factors are inter-related. For instance, proceeding into a turn too quickly and taking too sharp of an angle can increase the chances of rollover. Add to these circumstances tires that are improperly inflated or tires that are faulty and at risk failure, and the chances of rollover increase. If the vehicle in question has a narrow wheel base, or is top heavy with a high center of gravity, as is the case with many SUVs in rollover accidents, the chances of rollover also increase. Dangerous weather conditions, such as rain or ice on the roadway, only add to the potential for catastrophic injury resulting from a rollover accident.

Safety Measures

On top of avoiding the aforementioned potential causes of rollover accidents, certain safety precautions can be taken to reduce the chances of a rollover accident or minimize the possible injury in a rollover accident, including:

  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
  • Airbags
  • Seatbelts
  • Crush resistant roofs
  • Cars with lower centers of gravity or wider wheel bases

Unfortunately, all too many cars have defective safety equipment that gives little or no protection in the event of a rollover accident.

Rollover Injuries

Since many rollover accidents are the result of traveling at too high a rate of speed and involve violent changes of direction, the injuries that happen in rollover accidents can be catastrophic and often lead to death. Some of these injuries include:

The severity of injuries sustained in rollover accidents makes winning compensation in cases of things like faulty tires, improperly designed vehicles, or unnecessarily dangerous road conditions even more important. Also, the property damage sustained in rollover accidents is usually much greater than in a less severe accident such as a rear-end collision.
