Whiplash Injury Following a Car Accident
Whiplash injuries are defined as injuries to the neck that occur when a vehicle is hit from behind and the occupants of that vehicle that has been impacted are suddenly jerked forward and backward from the force of the impact.
This jerking action pushes the head and neck beyond their normal positions and causes trauma to the tissues of the neck, damage to the joints, discs, ligaments muscles and nerves. Whiplash is the most common car accident related injury and can occur at speeds as slow as ten miles an hour at impact.
Symptoms of whiplash include headache, neck pain, stiffness and dizziness. These symptoms can last for months or years if left untreated.
